With all the bad news coming out of Europe and the USA, how are you coping in your work or business? Any plans to move on to a new job?

Any of you change jobs recently? AFAIK, mech90 is working abroad and mike5220, ashabmy has switched jobs and are quite busy.

As for me it is business as usual but profit margin is slightly eroded.

Not doing well. In shipping business, cargo now are lesser due lower demand. Working abroad? Thinking about that as well. But i love my country (especially my family and food  Grin Grin) , tanah tumpahnya darahku.  Smiley

As for me, work is getting tougher. Currently bracing for the down cycle in the next 2-3 years...

Change job? For all that i know, i might even retire in 2-3 years down the road.  Grin

I guess we'll be shipping a lower volume of goods to Europe and the USA due to their belt tightening measures. Domestically, there is prediction of a slowing down in the properties sector.

Maybe another three months down the line the picture will be clearer on how much we are affected.   Smiley

For me so far it's BAU... but I can tell something is a bit different this year when our Executives decided to invest more in spend, means putting in more money to win deals and consequently reducing our OP. Which all means my bonus just got a bit smaller.  Just fishy when in all my 5 years here the OP has never been so low, not even in the 2008 recession  Undecided

But let's see what happens in the next Q...  Tongue

Let me shed some light AFAIK, now MISC has scrapped their liner business, gave their crude oil tankers to AET(as ship manager) and concentrating on OG/offshore business+LNG fleet. These are their major income contributor. Anyway, they still have chemical tankers fleet and a few other fleet.

Looking at this situation, there is possibility they will enter in mass scale into clean product tanker(bawak minyak kete n minyak diesel, minyak jet) segment which will eventually tutup periuk nasi other local players. They have all requirements and expertise by oil major. Freight rates no that good, increasing bunker prices, the hope seems fading.

We're spending more in A&P though...in an attempt to be more visible. Whatever we sell has seen a smaller margin (not that small though). We have to be shoulder to shoulder more often with the customers than before.

It helps when the US Dollar is a bit low since our products come from over there. Just as long as they don't increase their pricing....

mech90 is in the middle east. Sadly, when I go there, I never really get in touch. I'll do so this week and make it a point to lepak with him for some roast lamb and coffee in the Souk.

Its a shame sometimes when the G sector pays more for their stuff when they can get them for less and use the surplus for operation or something else. For eg, they get approval for 1 million. Then they look at who can give them something for that million. Under table or due to stupidity or arrogance gets them what they think they need. Then....find out they have no money to run the machines. Not even enough money to get printer cartridges...."tak da peruntukan..." is the often heard excuse. In the meantime, they have that million white elephant sitting in the room literally collecting dust.
